Nina joined our family at 8 weeks and is the very heart and foundation of Blacklash Cavaliers. Nina loved everything about showlife as anyone who has met her, will attest. She began competing in conformation shows when she was 3 months old. She has had some lovely wins in her show career and was a joy and pleasure to show, as well as to live with.

Nina took a break for most of 2016 to raise her family, which was our first litter under the Blacklash prefix. She returned to the show ring after her materity break, earning the final points towards her Championship title in August 2017.

Nina had 2 more litters - the second breeding produced a singleton, Frankie, who we placed in a pet home. Nina's 3rd and final litter was to Jose. This breeding produced 4 puppies, including our beautiful show bitch Beatriz, who is now retired and still with us today.

Nina has enjoyed excellent health over the years and is now 13. She was heart clear up to 8 years and remained stable. She has been on heart medication since she was 10 and regular Cardiology checks and ultrasounds have shown no further deterioration since medication began. Earlier this year Nina had a mammary tumour removed. She recovered well from surgery. In July we discovered an aggressive tumour on another mammary gland and this one had also started to spread to a lymph node. Nina has been on medication to shrink the size of the tumour to make surgery easier. The mass on her lymph node has now disappeared and the tumour has shrunk. We are currently seeing the vet for checkups every 2 weeks. Despite the tumour, Nina is living a very active and happy life. She keeps up with our social outings with the younger dogs and is often front and centre on car trips, walks and at cafes.
